Got a notice from my ISP that in a few weeks time I will no longer have a static IP address. Not the ISP fault however, they would be happy to provide the service. It is the company that manages the city fiber network that blames a system upgrade for the coming inability to provide static IP addresses.
My goal is to have separate wireless networks for guest and IOT devices, each on there own VLAN. Setting up VLAN with an EdgeRouter, UniFi switch and UniFI access points takes a few extra steps. In this post I describe how I got it working.
Apples AirPort have given my household good and stable Wi-Fi for many years. They cost a bit more but just work and are easy to set up, a very Apple product. Apple discontinued its AirPort products this year, and last updated them in 2013.
In Sweden many municipal owned power companies have been very active in building open optical fiber networks along side their district heating systems, power lines etc. Our local power company Jämtkraft is one of them. I worked for Jämtkraft before I went to university, it’s a good company.
