eclipseA total eclipse occerd in the south of Japan yesterday. I live in Fukui, the middle of Japan, and we saw a partial eclipse. It was so cloudy that we were able to see the sun by the naked eye. (It’s dangerous…)

This was my first time to see the eclipse, not on TV or a picuture. I was excited!

This photo was taken through a colored glass filter by my freind. AM 11:00

There are several assistant language teachers (ALT) in my city. A english ALT backed to her country 2 days ago. Before the farewell party for her, she lost her wallet (or most likely it was stolen). The contents were 110000yen, 300 dollars and cards. She put the wallet on her desk, and went her friend’s house. She didn’t lock the door. She backed to her house 30 minutes later, and it was lost. She’s crying several hours, we looked for it, but we couldn’t find it.

My family and I don’t lock the doors and windows of our house, because we live really country side.

The Loudness War kills my music interest

Little Boots BBC Sound of 2009 winnerThe record labels want their music to stand out, i.e be louder than others. They do it by compressing the dynamics of the music. It is called “The Loudness War”.

I stumbled upon BBC Sound of 2009 winner Little Boots on the BBC web site some month ago. I downloaded two BBC videos (MPEG4 and AAC 128 Kbit soundtrack) with live performance of “Meddle” and “Stuck on repeat”. Very good and interesting music!

I took the soundtracks from the videos and listen to them a lot. The sound quality was surprisingly good, the BBC has people who knows what they are doing. I was looking forward to Little Boots first album.

A couple of weeks ago I bought the album “Hands” and it’s quite good but I’m sorry to say that it sounds like crap. “Meddle” and “Stuck on repeat” are on the album but sounds nothing like the nice BBC recordings.

Long Vacation

In my work place, there are 14 employees there, but two people are suffering from depression and are taking a long long vacation. And one of them takes three years. It’s not fair…hahaha.

Now I save money to get married in 2009 or 2010…I don’t want to be wife… no it’s maybe good. I don’t want to have a sister-in-law(not mother-in-law) who lives next to my boyfriend’s family’s home. She has four children, but two of them live at my boyfriend’s place. It’s really strange… But I want my child. In Japan, it’s difficult being a single mother.

We’ve had a unusually weather in Japan this summer. Usually we have many typoons, but this year we haven’t yet. It’s strange. Instead of typoons, we were ravaged by torrential rains. I bought a hammer to smash car windows. If I would be trapped inside a car because of a torrential rain, and go under the water, I would have to get out!!! I know I’m fool, but I bought it. And I’m relieved.

By the way, 15th is Payment of a Pension Day. And there are a lot of “It’s me” fraud and bank transfer scam targeting old people on 15th. Police men were standing by the ATM at every post Office and bank all day long that day. I work at a post office, so I was watching a police man all day long, because he stood really straight and stiff all day! Usually I can’t see such a man at the post Office, so It was interesting for me.

I finaly bought a new laptop computer this month. I hadn’t checked my e-mail for 5 months because my PC broke after 5 years in use. I checked my e-mail yesterday, and I received about 7000 e-mails…I thought I shoud checked all e-mails if these were important or not. But I gave it up as soon as I saw how many I receive e-mail. I’m sure almost all these e-mails were junk. Maybe…

Katie MeluaA friends pulled up his mobile and said, “this is something in your taste I believe”. He pressed play and the music of Katie Melua sprang out of the tiny speakers. He was right, absolutely in my taste.

When I came home I looked up the name that I had scrawled on a small piece of paper. iTunes Store had her music but not as iTunes Plus (i.e no DRM) so I went to one of the CD/DVD web shops I use and bought her music on CDs instead.

Doris Lessing wins the 2007 Nobel Prize for Literature

Mara and Dann by Doris LessingThis must be the first time the Nobel Prize for Literature goes to a author that I have read (and very much enjoyed).

that epicist of the female experience, who with scepticism, fire and visionary power has subjected a divided civilisation to scrutiny

I don’t really get the motivation given by the Svenska Akademien but I do think she is well worth the prize.

Background

for my sister I drew it for my sister. It’s not so good… but rather gross. But drawing pictures was very fun, and I did it after a long interval. So if I continue to draw pictures, I will become much better. …I hope so.

Usually I don’t draw only background, so this picture seems like something is missing. But it’s because just my skill is low. I will draw a lot of pictures from now.
